Matt Allwright to present new BBC One quiz ‘The Code’

Rogue Traders presenter Matt Allwright has today been unveiled as the face of BBC One’s newest quiz, The Code, produced for BBC Daytime by Gogglebox Entertainment.

Faced with a locked safe full of money, contestants must answer questions to crack a 3 digit code that will open the safe and win them the jackpot.

The jackpot starts at £3,000. But each time a contestant fails - and that could be after just one wrong answer - they have to leave immediately. Once eliminated, another £500 goes into the safe, ready for a new player to enter and try to crack The Code.

The longer the safe remains unopened, the higher the jackpot…

Newcomer and quiz expert Lesley-Anne Brewis will join matt to give those all-important extra facts and bits of fun trivia.

Matt Allwright said “I’ve always loved a good quiz and The Code has the makings of something really exciting. It’s easy to play but one wrong answer means you are on your way home. I can’t wait to get cracking!”

Contestants can try to crack the code alone, or in teams of 2 or 3. The more brains, the easier the task, but the jackpot will have to be split.

Dan McGolpin, Controller of BBC Daytime said: “We’re thrilled that The Code will be on BBC One Daytime this Spring. It’s a new quiz that sets a tough challenge with no margin for error, guaranteeing many moments of high drama in the afternoon.”

Adam Wood, Gogglebox Entertainment MD and Executive Producer, said: “The Code is excitingly unpredictable. The safe could be opened after just 3 questions, but it might take 3 weeks…by which time the jackpot would be huge. That unpredictability should translate into dramatic television.”

The Code is a 25 x 45’ BBC Daytime series, commissioned by Dan McGoplin, Controller BBC Daytime, and Alex McLeod, BBC Commissioning Editor for BBC One. The series is produced by Gogglebox Entertainment. Gogglebox MD Adam Wood is Executive producer, with Sean Miller series producing.
