Young War Widows

Young War Widows

‘Young War Widows’ is a portrait of three young women whose soldier husbands were killed fighting for their country in the most recent Afghanistan war. It’s a film that takes us behind the public images of war widows and into their world.

Sam, Victoria and Nikki tell their story entirely in their own words. From their first dates and falling in love, to getting married and life as a military wife. To the goodbyes for the fateful tour, and the homecoming every soldier’s wife dreads – a repatriation at RAF Lyneham.

It is a moving portrait of love and loss, examining the impact of the ultimate sacrifice, as marriages are cut short in the most shocking way, and children grow up without fathers. But there’s hope too, amongst the despair: each of these extraordinary women has found the strength to move forward and start living again.

‘Young War Widows’ is a tribute to those families whose lives have been devastated by war, and a testament to the human spirit.
