IMPOSSIBLE? RETURNS WITH EXTRA SPECIALS

26.08.11

Channel 5’s magic-themed gameshow Impossible?, which was stopped mid-run earlier this year, is to make a return to tap into Big Brother’s audience.

Impossible? was placed on hold by the channel after two episodes in May in order to benefit from BB’s larger inherited audience and will now follow the reality show BB beginning in October.

C5 will now look to kickstart the entertainment series, a co-production between Gogglebox Entertainment and GroupM Entertainment, with two celebrity special episodes.

The remaining four episodes of the original 6 x 60-minute series will then follow.

The tactic of scheduling entertainment shows around BB has so proved successful for other original C5 commissions dating format The Bachelor and gameshow The Beat Goes On, which respectively drew above-slot-averages of 1.3m and 450,000.

Greg Barnett, C5’s commissioning editor of daytime and soaps said the show would help cement the channel as a destination for a 16-to 34 yearold audience.

“Big Brother is attracting a younger, different type of audience to the channel who have an appetite for entertainment shows,” said Barnett. “The show will return in exactly the same format – if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.”
